echo agent on your phone
Use echo on your Mac while you’re away from it: hold to talk and hand it off. See what Claude Code and Codex are doing, send new tasks, and tap Allow when they ask for permission. The work still happens on your Mac; the phone is the remote.
Get started in three steps
- Show the pairing code on your MacIn echo agent 0.1.38 or later, open Settings → Phone, turn on “Control this Mac from your phone” and click “Show pairing code”.
- Install the app and scan the codeOn Android, tap the button above and install; the first time, allow your browser to install apps when asked. Open echo agent and scan the code on your Mac. You only scan once.
- Hold to talk, or typeBy default it goes to echo, which answers or hands the work to Claude Code or Codex for you. You can also pick Claude Code or Codex yourself and choose a project.
What you can do from your phone
- Talk to echo. Hold the mic on the home screen and echo starts a new chat on your Mac; open an earlier chat and keep talking to continue it. The reply appears as it’s written, and you get a notification when it’s done.
- See what Claude Code and Codex are doing. Tasks from echo and sessions you started yourself in Terminal, grouped by project, with a notification when a task finishes.
- Send, continue and stop tasks. Pick a project, say what to do, attach a picture if it helps; follow up when it’s done, or stop it.
- Approve from your phone. When Claude Code or Codex wants to run a command, change files or go online, it waits and asks you. Tap Allow or Deny.
Security, and when your Mac is asleep
- End-to-end encrypted. Everything between your phone and your Mac is encrypted with a key made when you pair; our relay only passes along ciphertext it can’t read. The pairing code holds this Mac’s key, so don’t share it.
- Except notifications. A notification’s title and one-line summary go through push services (Expo, then Apple or Google) to reach your phone, so they aren’t end-to-end encrypted.
- Speech is recognized on your Mac. The phone sends your recording to the Mac in encrypted pieces, and the Mac recognizes it; no other speech service is involved.
- Nothing is lost while your Mac sleeps. While plugged in, the Mac won’t fall asleep on its own (the display still turns off). After you close the lid, commands from your phone wait in line and run in order when the Mac wakes.
FAQ
Does the phone app cost anything?
It’s free. Talking to echo from your phone uses the same account’s echo uses as your Mac; Claude Code and Codex use your own accounts in those tools.
Can I use it without a Mac?
No. The phone app is a remote for echo agent on your Mac, and all the work happens on the Mac. It needs a Mac with Apple silicon, macOS 15 or later and echo agent 0.1.38 or later.
Android warns about installing an unknown app. What do I do?
For now the Android app comes from this website, not an app store. Follow the prompt to let your browser install apps; you can turn that permission off again afterwards.
Why don’t I get notifications?
Background notifications on Android rely on Google services, so phones without them get no notifications while echo agent is closed. Opening the app brings everything up to date.
When is the iPhone version coming?
The iPhone version is on its way to the App Store. Once it’s live, the download will be on this page.
